Campaign to improve health and well-being in workplaces and society

In an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19 and sexual harassment in the workplace, the DFPA (Sex & Samfund) and Confederation of Danish Industry developed a Covid-19 campaign which was implemented in Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia.
DFPA works to reduce the harm of covid-19

Sexual harassment and gender-based violence is equally important to address during pandemics, as disaster exacerbates pre-existing inequities and power hierarchies. Sadly, we have seen harassment and violence against women increase during lockdown due to economic stressors and prolonged quarantine in the home. That is why it is important to address sexual harassment and gender-based violence during pandemics as Covid-19.

Although the Covid-19 pandemic is subsiding, the campaign material is still relevant. In addition, the material has proven useful in preventing other infectious disease outbreaks, such as Ebola, where it is equally important to focus on workplace practices around health and sanitation.

The Covid-19 pandemic has led to sickness and deaths all around the world – also in East Africa where the Danish Family Planning Association collaborates with the private sector.

“Prevent the spread” campaign

In close cooperation with our East African partners, Federation of Uganda Employers, Reproductive Health Uganda, Federation of Kenya Employers, Family Health Options Kenya, and Ethiopia Horticulture Producer Exporters Association, the DFPA developed the “Prevent the Spread” campaign. The purpose of the campaign was to raise awareness of WASH, combat sexual harassment and violence, and improve workplace practices around health and sanitation.

Together, we developed a Covid-19 guideline targeting executives, HR Managers and OHS committees to strengthen protection of workers. The guideline sheds light on the importance of health and sanitation, good leadership, and sexual harassment in the workplace. We also developed Covid-19 and anti-sexual harassment campaign materials targeting employees to prevent the spread of Covid-19, improve health and safety in the workplace – and in the home.

The campaign materials targeting companies in Uganda are available in English and Luganda, and the campaign materials targeting companies in Kenya are available in English and Swahili.
